Sales. Different sectors are returning to life and are looking to hire strong Sales Managers

Read in Russian

The number of sales vacancies continues to grow and the beginning of 2010 saw a cross-sector revival raise the demand for strong sales professionals. Many companies continue to replace their employees with more effective ones, but it is still proving difficult to headhunt people from competitive organizations.

FMCG

Towards the end of 2009 in the Russian FMCG sector, we saw a renewed need for managers responsible for the optimisation, support and development of sales. According to Aslan Tsarikaev, the head of Antal Russia Sales/FMCG recruitment department, key account managers and sales managers at all levels are in demand, as are trade marketing managers.

B2B

The demand in mid-level sales managers has grown in the food industry especially in the companies producing foodstuffs since the beginning of 2010. The automotive sector has also revived – suppliers of automobile components and spare parts are actively hiring sales directors. Medical equipment producers maintained stability in 2009 and in 2010 sought sales roles at all levels.

Increased activity in agricultural sector is expected in spring, where the middle level sales vacancies will appear.

“Overall, there are more sales vacancies the in B2B sector”, comments Vera Filatova, the head of Antal Russia B2B recruitment department. “It seems companies start restructuring from the top which is usually followed by the replacement of the mid-level sales managers”.

Oil & Gas

There are more sales vacancies in the Oil & Gas Industry, and companies are trying to find candidates using both their own networks and recruitment agencies to fill challenging but interesting positions. “We are still looking for more effective candidates for existing roles”, comments Marina Dubovitskaya, the head of Antal Russia Oil & Gas Department. “Also companies which let go too many employees in 2009 are now starting to fill in the gaps in 2010”.

Highly qualified sales managers change jobs reluctantly if they have no motivation. “We can headhunt good sales people if we offer the chance of working with Western management or colleagues, which becomes the next step in career development where the person has wider responsibility. Also candidates are ready to change job because of the company restructuring or difficult relationships in the team”, says Marina Dubovitskaya.

IT/Telecommunications

The number of sales vacancies in IT and telecommunication companies, which work with big clients as well as public sector, has grown noticeably in the first months of 2010. The market stabilises gradually and companies initially start to recruit strong candidates for their sales departments. “The beginning of the year is the time for budget distribution and IT and Telecommunication companies so the opportunity is there to win tenders of big clients. The basic requirements of the candidates now are the ability to communicate with the highest level of management and lobbying the interests of their organization in tenders”, says Margarita Evan, the head of IT/Telecom recruitment department at Antal Russia.
