The demand for marketing research managers remained stable in 2009 from large FMCG companies as well as marketing agencies. Now the demand for such professionals stays high and the general market growth stimulates the growth of interest in them. Regardless of the fact that many companies continue to save marketing budgets, marketing research is considered an additional function in marketing and not all companies can afford having marketing research departments, still such vacancies continue appear on the market quite often.

Generally there are middle management vacancies available and also a number of companies in Moscow and St. Petersburg are considering people able to head their marketing research departments. Usually vacancies appear because employers need to replace their managers, or because of structural changes in organisations.

There are a few really strong candidates on marketing research managerial positions in open sources now. It is quite hard to entice successful managers working in other companies and employers should be ready to present more interesting offers which will push the person to change the job: higher salary, career promotion or a strong company brand.

Regardless of the fact that managers of different levels working in marketing agencies strive to move to the client’s side, companies are not always ready to consider them as candidates and such professionals should decrease their salary expectations, be ready to agree on a lower position or consider not so well known companies in order to develop their career.

In agencies, middle level marketing research managers can expect a salary of between 70 000 – 100 000 RUR a month gross. The head of marketing research department on average gets between 120 000 – 140 000 RUR a month. Large FMCG companies can offer on average 120 000 RUR to a middle level marketing research manager, the head of department can get 150 000 – 250 000 RUR and a senior level manager such as Business Information Market Research and Intelligence Director can expect between 300 000 – 400 000 RUR a moth.
